Lagun Community Hosts First Otunba Hassan Giwa Ramadan Lecture

Nigerian Muslims have been advised to imbibe the principles of unity, obedience and generosity with the hope to promote the religion of Islam and obey the directives of Prophet Muhammed (S.A.W) as ordered by the almighty Allah.

This was the main issue discussed at the first edition of the Ramadan lecture organized by Otunba (Arc) Hassan Olawale Giwa Foundation held at Lagun Central Mosque, Lagun, Oyo State, on May 25th, 2019.

The guest lecturers, Sheik AbdulJeleel Salahudeen and Chief Imam, Kumapayi Muslim Community, Sheik Wajeehu Oloso identified unity as a vital tool for a way forward in the propagation of Islam, not only in the Lagun Community but also in Oyo State, Nigeria and the world in general.

They implored all well to do Muslims in the society to assist other Muslims to form a common front in championing the cause of Islam.

The founder of the foundation, who is also the Otunba of Lagun, Arc. Hassan Giwa, in his remark, disclosed that the rationale behind the establishment of the foundation is to contribute his quota towards the development of mankind and the society in general.

He pointed out areas like education, agriculture, youth, women and widow empowerment and health as the major focus of the foundation, saying that the foundation has been assisting students, youths, farmers, women and widows in the community and Lagelu Local Government as a whole.

Otunba Giwa said further that, while not less than 100 students from both primary and secondary schools have benefitted from the foundation’s educational support scheme with payment of their Common Entrance and WAEC examinations fees, the foundation has also distributed uniforms as well as furniture to pupils and a school in the community.

He maintained that the foundation through its financial and business support scheme has also provided soft loan facilities to small scale traders to boost their businesses and has also encouraged and equipped some that have learnt a particular trade or vocation.

Otunba Giwa reiterated that the foundation, as part of its community outreach programmes, is putting arrangements in place to organize free medical treatment and empowerment for women and widows in the entire Lagelu Local Government.

The founder of Hassan Olawale Giwa Foundation, while appreciating the people in the community and the entire local government for their support for the foundation and its programmes, urged them to put into use all the teachings and lessons of the holy month of Ramadan.

The Chairman at the event, Alhaji Remi Adebayo charged parents to be proactive in the affairs and caring of their children, saying that the bulk stops on their table whether the children exhibited positive or negative characters.

He praised the lecturers for the well delivered topics and charged Muslim faithfuls to endeavour to propagate Islam through good behaviour and relations to other Muslims and all mankind.

The Chairman, Lagelu North LCDA, Basorun Taofeek Arowomole, commended the organizer of the Ramadan lecture for bringing Lagun indigenes together again in the history of the community.

The council boss described it as a step in the right direction towards the promotion of Islam. He urged others to emulate Otunba Hassan Giwa in giving back to the society.
