Rt Hon Olakunle Oluomo, the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, has tasked the members of staff of the Assembly to be apolitical, remain dedicated to their job and be discipline towards enhancing optimum performance and quality service delivery for the legislative arm of government.
Oluomo, who gave the charge during an interactive meeting with the management and staffers of the Assembly at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan Abeokuta, explained that it was important for workers to be apolitical and be diligent irrespective of their designation and ensure strict adherence to public service rules and regulations.
The Speaker promised that the ninth legislature under his leadership would prioritise their welfare and put in place series of human capacity development programmes to all categories of staff, admonishing them to desist from partisan politics and other acts that are inimical to their to their career in the service.
“We will ensure that all categories of staff are trained, from the most senior to the messenger, we will also prioritize your welfare programmes, while you should also reciprocate by being loyal to the system, punctual and remain diligent in your duties as civil servants”, the Speaker counsels.
He sought for more understanding and mutual working relationship saying that the Assembly workers must set the standard of excellence in service for the promotion of good democratic ideals, assuring that information exchange through the use suggestion and complaint box would be put in place to aid feedback among members of staff and the leadership of the Assembly.
In the same vein, the Speaker played host to members of an independent social media support group known as ‘Ogun Next Level’ with a charge on them to be agent of positive change, move above partisan politics and contribute to the development of the State through valuable advice and constructive criticisms.
He explained that there was need for more viable and formidable advocacy groups that would promote citizen’s involvement in politics so as to ensure that the common people contribute their quota to the development of the society, promising that the group would be listed and invited as one of the stakeholders to be engaged in the process of enacting people oriented legislations.
Commending them for their support through political orientation and mobilization during the electioneering period, Oluomo stressed the need for citizens to be politically conscious of happenings in their immediate environment, hence the need for the group to put political leaders on their toes to deliver on their electioneering promises.
The Speaker, who opined that the level of democratic development of any nation depended on the level of involvement of the citizenry on socio-economic and political issues in their environment, called for encouragement through suggestions and advice that could enhance good governance, assuring that the present legislature would engage civil societies and other stakeholders in its activities for quality service delivery.
Earlier in their separate remarks, former member of the Assembly, Hon. Adebowale Ojuri and other members of the group including Dele Oguntade, Yusuf Ashiru, Adeyinka Hassan stated that the group consisted of professionals, community leaders and individuals committed to intensifying efforts in the area of evidence based policy input, capacity enhancement and implementation support in the areas of economic development, universal services, mineral resources, agriculture, security, healthcare, education and other issues of priority for the Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration in the State.
Earlier in his speech, the group Coordinator, Omooba Abiola Ogundeko assured that the group was ready to partner the Assembly in the enactment of people-oriented legislations through the facilitation of policy inputs that would foster an enduring goodwill between the government and the people.
