Ex-Oyo First Lady, Florence Unveils New Book Dedicated To Promotion Of Children

The wife of the former governor of Oyo State, Mrs. Florence Ajimobi has promised that the new chapter of her life will be used to promote and champion the course of the children in the society.

Mrs. Ajimobi disclosed this during a public presentation of her new book, “My Life Like A Rainbow” which was held at Initiative for Information, Arts and Culture Development in Nigeria IACD Library, Jericho, Ibadan on June 18th, 2019.

Mrs. Ajimobi, during her presentation, described herself as a daughter of destiny, who irrespective of her  background, mixed parentage and marriage to a man from polygamous family, still determined to be a successful person in life.

She expressed that since she clocked 60, she has been looking for a way where the upcoming generation will be able to tap from her life experience and make use of it to become better children in the society.

“My message is that no matter what your background is, no matter what the circumstance of your birth is, use it as an advantage in life. My own circumstance is that of a child that could come up with complex, but here I am today, a woman holding her head up in the society. My message to the younger ones out there is that no matter what happens, no matter who your parents are, no matter where you find yourself in life, be determined to make it.

“I want to start to impact the lives of the younger ones as a mentor, I want to tell them my story, my story is life lesson for them. From that story I will be able to encourage them to be the women of their dream.

“Like I said earlier, my life as a wife of governor is over, I now want to give back to my society, as a wife of governor, I have been able to impact on the lives of women and now I want to focus on the younger generation.”

While urging children and youths in the society to be focused and courageous enough to achieve their desired aims and objectives, she clarified that she was a self made woman who only focused on how and way to be relevant in the society.

Mrs. Ajimobi challenged them not to lose focus irrespective of situations and circumstances, revealing that she got to know her father when she was six years of old.

Speaking about her family, the ex-first lady encouraged women to swallow their pride in order to have a successful home, citing when her husband wanted to join politics in 2002 as a case study. She revealed the argument that ensued and the circumstances she went through in order to save her home.

Mrs. Florence Ajimobi, while thanking God, stated that the book is a way of sharing her experience with the younger generation to chart a way of moving forward in life.

While delivering her welcome address, the Executive Director of Initiative for Information, Arts and Culture Development in Nigeria, Mrs. Adefemi Bucknor-Arigbede disclosed that the IACD Nigeria is an initiative with mission to expose the Nigerian populace to the best practices in teaching and writing in the world.

She disclosed that the book, ‘My Life Like A Rainbow’ entails the life experience of Mrs. Ajimobi, covered her eight years as first lady of Oyo State, 39 years of her marriage and a life spanning over 60 years.

“In the book, she unambiguously shares her experiences as a child of mixed parentage, wife to a man that started from a modest beginning who later became the governor of Oyo State, mother to five lovely children, grandmother, business woman, student, mentee, philanthropist and recently the former first lady of Oyo State.”

Some of the dignitaries in attendance included Mrs. Funmi Roberts, who was the Chairperson, Dr. Omolara Smith of Molly Specialist Hospital and Mrs. Dolapo Oyedipe of ABC Medical Care Foundation as discussants and Arc. Mobolaji Adeniyi.

Others were former Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Atinuke Oshunkoya, Former Commissioner for Finance, Bimbo Adekanmbi and Bisola Kola-Daisi, one of the daughters of the author among others.
