  • Pledges To Conduct LG Polls Next Year

Engr Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State has pledged that his commissioners will be known by the public in the next two weeks.

He equally promised that his administration will conduct elections into Local Government Areas in the state by the first quarter of next year.

Makinde made these revelations on Saturday evening while featuring on a radio programme monitored by PMParrot, to mark his first 30 days in office.

According to him “the last administration didn’t respond to our request for information while they were still there, they said they were in government and that we should wait till the last day. That’s why we spent the last month getting details from departments and ministries. Actions will start anytime from now.

He said his administration was determined to make local governments in the state stronger.

He also revealed that his administration has plans to reorganise the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) and ensure that it is made up of persons of integrity and impeccable character.

According to him, OYSIEC will conduct a free, fair and transparent election next year.

Makinde equally revealed that his administration inherited a minimum debt of N150 billion, adding that his government is still checking the books to determine the actual total debt.

He announced that the state receives N4.5b federal allocation while salaries and pensions stand at N5.5b leaving the state with a shortage of N1b.

On government vehicles allegedly taken away by some of those who served with his predecessor, Makinde said the immediate past Head of Service (HoS) Mrs Hannah Ogunesan went away with the vehicle bought for her just earlier in the year.

He, however, promised to be forward-looking instead of concentrating his energy on the previous administration.

On education, the governor said he has decided to do all he can to bring back the lost glory of Oyo State.

He submitted that Oyo State came last during the last WAEC among all the states in the south of Nigeria. He promised that gradual improvement will be witnessed in the next one year.
