The Lawmaker representing Ibadan North state constituency 2 in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Adebayo Babajide has lamented the poor condition of Agbowo Shopping Complex, and has called on the state governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde to renovate and upgrade it.

Hon. Babajide made the appeal in his motion presented on the floor of the House on July 18th, 2019 on “An Appeal for the Evaluation and Renovation of Agbowo Shopping Complex Towards Boosting the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of Oyo State.”

The lawmaker noted that the shopping complex, which was built in 1984 under the military administration of Col. Oladayo Popoola is presently in a bad condition as most structures in the complex are in dilapidated conditions.

Hon. Babajide said that the shopping complex, which houses over 300 shops and office spaces, apart from popular cinema house, large car park and many other facilities had at one-time served as source of revenue for the state government.

He urged Governor Makinde to direct the Oyo State Housing Corporation, which is the  body in charge of the complex to forward a comprehensive report of the status of the complex to the state’s House of Assembly for necessary assessment.

Hon. Babajide, whose motion was seconded by Hon. Yusuf Adebisi, representing Ibadan South West state constituency 1, also advised the governor to consider public private partnership in order to quickly bring commercial activities in the Complex back to life.

While appealing to the governor, Hon. Babajide emphasized that the shopping complex, apart from being a source of revenue to the state government, will also serve as means of generating employment opportunities to the people of the state.
