The Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin has promised to continue to maintain existing good working relationship between the Assembly and the private sector to boost the state’s Internally Generated Revenue.

Hon. Ogundoyin stated this while leading a delegation on a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Breweries’ location on Ife-Ibadan Road on Wednesday.

He explained that the purpose of the visit was to identify environmental challenges confronting the plant as one of the companies that pay taxes into the coffer of the state and how to come up with legislations to address them.

Hon. Ogundoyin promised that the ninth assembly will continue to maintain the existing good working relationship between the House and the Nigerian Breweries to ensure smooth operation of the company and boosting the Internally Generated Revenue of the state.

“We, the members of the Oyo State House of Assembly appreciate the contribution of the company to the state’s economy in terms of employment for our people and also in terms of taxes paid to the government and other Corporate Social Responsibilities our people have enjoyed so far.

“Our is to build an economically viable state, bring in more private investors, but we cannot do all these things without creating a good relationship with the existing national and multinational companies in the state.

“As lawmakers, we need to know what challenges they are facing, how can we help in forming policies that will make businesses thrive in the state without compromising the wellbeing of our people.

“We have toured offices of security agencies and we are working on the reports from security stakeholders already, it is time to look into the economy, we have started with Nigerian Breweries and definitely we will visit other big players in our economy as a state,” he added.

The Speaker commended the company for its waste disposal system, urged the management to do more to ensure safety of members of  the host community.

The Deputy Speaker, Hon. Abiodun Fadeyi and the Majority Leader, Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin commended the company, however, implored the management to expand its Community Social Responsibility to other parts of the state rather than concentrating on Ibadan alone.

The company’s Manager in charge of Oyo and Ogun states, Mr. Tayo Ogundana said that the company is conscious of environmental management, saying that measures have been put in place to address issues if they arise.

He appeal to the lawmakers to make policies and laws that will support the company and attract other private investors into the state, saying that when a company like this faces challenges, it affects income and subsequently the taxes paid to the government.

He also pledged that the company will continue to operate within the confines of the laws guiding environmental management in Oyo State. Also on the entourage of the speaker were Hon. Adebayo Babajide, Hon. Akeem Adedibu and Hon. Owolabi Olusola.
