All arrangements are being concluded for the Oyo State House of Assembly to screen for confirmation all the 14 commissioner-designates to work with Governor Seyi Makinde on Thursday.

The Speaker of the state’s Assembly, Honourable Adebo Ogundoyin made this known at plenary on Monday.

Thursday’s exercise is a sequel to the list of would-be commissioners forwarded for confirmation to the Assembly by Governor Seyi Makinde on July 24.

Among those to be screened are Chairman, Seyi Makinde Campaign Organisation, Chief Bayo Lawal; former members of the state Assembly, Honourable Kehinde Ayoola and Honourable Adeniyi Farinto; former Chairman, Ibadan North West local government area, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun, academics, Professor Oyelowo Oyewo and Professor Daudu Sangodoyin.

Also to be screened for confirmation of appointment, on Thursday, are the Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr Nureni Adeniran as well as Mr Akeem Oladeji and Mr Dayo Ogungbenro as full-time members.

The Assembly also on Monday continued the process of reconstituting ministries to be manned by the commissioners with the passing into law of the creation of Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Budget of Planning, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and Ministry of Establishment and Training.

Following a motion by Honourable Olawumi Oladeji of Ogbomoso North constituency and Honourable Sanjo Adedoyin of Ogbomoso North, the Assembly has urged the state government to urgently recruit qualified teachers in secondary schools.

The Assembly held that this became expedient owing to the dearth of qualified teachers in the schools of the state.

In addition, the Assembly tasked the state government to regularise the appointment of PTA teachers who had proven themselves to be useful.

Especially, the Assembly also called on the state government to consider the provision of running grants to school in the state to enable schools to meet their needs.
