Late Hon Tunde Braimoh...of Lagos State House of Assembly...

Popular member of Lagos State House of Assembly, Honourable Tunde Braimoh has described the much reported xenophobic attacks against foreigners including Nigerians in South Africa as anachronistic and repugnant.

In a statement made available to PMParrot early on Friday, the politician noted that the Government of South Africa is also a crass failure with its lack lustre and phlegmatic response.

Read the full text of the statement here:

The senseless, mindless and reckless mass murder tagged xenophobia being perpetrated by some barbaric, crude and raw South Africans in their homeland calculated and orchestrated against their brother and sister Africans is to say the least sad, mad and terribly bad. It is unconscionable, anachronistic, and repugnant to any known Human order or system. It is therefore unacceptable and should be loudly condemned by all agents of civilization worldwide.

It is but a paradoxical irony that the same South Africa for which many of us Nigerians contributed our widows’ mite and for which we were even ready to lay down our lives is now our albatross

Even assuming without conceding that the Nigerians targeted for attacks are illicit traders and dealers as they allege , is there no law in that country to curb criminal dealings? Any society where the rule of law has failed and where self help prevails is akin to the Stone Age where life was brutish, nasty and shortish.

The Government of South Africa is also a crass failure with its lack lustre and phlegmatic response. It leaves too much to be desired.

The Nigerian Government on its part has responded quite well in the circumstances but it needs to follow the matter up to a logical conclusion whereby all victims dead and alive are adequately compensated and the criminal murderers and arsonists brought to book.

The irate Nigerian populace, however, need to be more introspective and calculated in spite of the infuriating and exasperating temptations and frustrations. By the indigenization laws of Nigeria, substantial interests in almost all commercial and industrial concerns are owned by Nigerian investors even if they buy into world renowned brands as franchisees Therefore destroying businesses perceived to be South African is simply destroying our own properties.

Our Law enforcement agents should also tread softly and disperse unlawful assemblies with non-lethal weapons.

Finally all regional and world bodies especially the AU and the UN are challenged to rise against this re enactment of savagery and sardonic sadism being championed by some unscrupulous South Africans.
