Professor Sabit Ariyo Olagoke, the founder, spiritual head and Grand Imam, Shafaudeen-in-Islam worldwide has joined other prominent Nigerians to admonish President Muhammadu Buhari on the issue of border closure and hike in Value Added Tax (VAT).

In an exclusive chat with PMParrot/Parrot Xtra Magazine over the weekend, the cleric urged the President to always consider the welfare of the masses before making any major policy decision.

The erudite man of God also took time to speak generally about the situation of things in the country.

His words “The Nigeria that I grew up to know as a young man had a peaceful environment and that of rich culture and was dependent solely on agricultural produce and products. Through it, we developed agro-allied industries.

“That time, the North was known with the value chain of groundnut pyramids; the East, coal; and the West was known for cocoa and coffee even palm-oil and a host of others. We were so blessed with people that were committed to development and welfare of the people. Then, our monetary value was as powerful. The naira was more valuable than both the pound sterling and the dollar.

“Unfortunately, the first coup of January 15, 1966 broke down the values that that we had and since then, that book written by Chinua Achebe ‘Things fall apart’ became prophetic”.
