The coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr has hailed his side’s never-say-die spirit after they came from a goal down to beat Lesotho 4-2 in Sunday’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Maseru, Sports Extra reports.

It was the second time that the Eagles were coming from a goal deficit to win in four days.

They had earlier come from a goal down to beat Benin Republic 2-1 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo last Wednesday before  their Sunday’s feat.

According to Rohr, his team have been able to display a good spirit by coming back from behind to win.

“In some matches, you score the first goal, and in some matches you concede first,” he told journalists during a post-match conference after the win over Lesotho,

“We scored first all the times, against Brazil, Ukraine and Tunisia. In the three matches, we scored first and we could not win the games, except against Tunisia.

“I prefer to concede the first goal and win the match, it shows that my team has the spirit, they never give up, they don’t lose their calm, and they try to play well, without panicking.

“You know we have a very young team, and what I like about this young team is the enthusiasm they have to play football and even if they concede a goal, they don’t stop.”

The Eagles coach also hailed their opponents for giving them a good fight.

“For the match, we know it is very difficult to play Lesotho, especially when you concede the first goal, they played very well in the beginning and we had to run after they scored and to take the game in our heart and then we gained the rhythm.

“We had a long travelling by night, you can see that in the beginning, my players didn’t have the necessary concentration.

Then in the second half, we changed our organisation and it was better.

“I feel my players have fun when they play football, because it is important that we win the game, congratulations to my colleague, they are a good team, they gave us a lot of trouble,” Rohr said.
