Identify With Well Meaning People To Develop Sports- Oyo Commissioner Admonished

The Founder and Spiritual Head of Shafaudeen In Islam Worldwide, Prof. (Engr.) Sabit Olagoke Ariyo (JP) has enjoined all political office holders to identify with people with the aim of integrating them into the government’s programmes.

Professor Olagoke gave the admonition during the opening of Shafaudeen Ishrat 2020 and 15th edition of Shafaudeen Group of Schools Annual Inter-House Sports Competition held at Christ Church Primary School, Wakajaye in Ibadan on January 11th, 2020.

Prof. Olagoke disclosed that it is during inter-house or inter-school sports competitions like this that talents that will lift sports’ glory of a state or nation are discovered.

The cleric noted that the onus is on the state’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Oyo State, Seun Fakorede and other relevant stakeholders in the sporting arena to identify with well meaning individuals to develop sports in the state.

Prof. Olagoke explained that this will assist them to discover talents, nurture and integrate them into professional line that will in turn bring glory to the state after they might have represented the state at national or international competitions.

According to him, “Nurturing talents discovered to prominence is a challenge that has been a kind of recurring decimal, we have been telling government, those days in the 60s and 70s, most stars that emerged for Nigeria, that represented Nigeria at international scenes, most of them were under the operation-catch-them-young during inter-house or inter-school competitions like this, and government officials are always there whether you inform them or you don’t inform them -because they believe it is their jobs to be there to discover talents and train them. But this time around it is unfortunately, even if you invite them, they won’t come.”

He used the opportunity to implore the government at all levels to invest in sports to serve as employment avenue for the teeming youths and to reduce rate of abuse in the society.

Prof. Sabit Olagoke also advised parents to monitor, examine, question and even teach sexuality education to their children to safeguard them from any form of abuse.

Meanwhile, Rasool (White) House has won the 2020 edition of Annual Inter-House Sports Competition of Shafaudeen Group of Schools with 96 points.

The keenly contested competition witnessed students participating in various track and field events such as match past, relay races, sack race, balloon race, ultimate search as well as daddy’s shoe race for both male and female categories.

The Rasool House emerged overall winner with 96 points, leaving Grand Ameerah (Purple) House and Olagoke (Blue) House in second and third positions respectively with 84 and 80 points. While Shafaudeen (Green) House came distant fourth with 74 points.

In the Shafaudeen Inter-Branch Table-Tennis Tournament, Salam Abdullah of Owode Oyo Branch emerged winner, defeating Oladiti Faruq of Caterpillar Branch with 21 to 12 points to lift the trophy.

The event was attended by guests across the state and beyond including Asiwaju Olasunkade Azeez, who was the Chairman of the Day, Alhaji and Alhaja Ganiyu-Siji and Alhaji Abiola Alli, Director, Shafaudeen Youth, Sports and Development Commission.
