Oyo CDHR Elects New Chairman At 2020 Ibadan Delegates Conference

A new Chairman for the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), Oyo State Branch emerged over the weekend at the 2020 delegates conference held at the Cheshire High School, Polytechnic Road, Sango in Ibadan, the capital city of the state.

The election which was done openly saw Comrade Alalade Salmon from Ona Ara Unit elected as the new Chairman for the Oyo State Branch of the Committee.

Comrade Alalade Salmon emerged as the new Chairman among the three contestants who were nominated at the Delegates Conference of the Oyo State Branch of the CDHR in Ibadan on Saturday.

Comrade Alalade Salmon from the Ona Ara Unit defeated the other two contestants with a total votes of 18 over others who polled three votes each. Comrade Ademilua Ayo from Ojoo Unit scored three votes while Comrade Samuel Omotoso from Basorun Unit also scored three votes.

Comrade Afeez Saliu from Polytechnic Unit who scored a total votes of 19 was elected as the new State Secretary for the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights in Oyo State while his distant rival, Comrade Toluwanimi Alabi from Basorun Unit polled five votes.

Earlier at the Delegates Conference of the CDHR in Ibadan, Comrade Alalade Salmon from Ona Ara Unit who emerged as the new State Chairman rejected his nomination to become the State Treasurer. At the end of the election of the CDHR, Comrade Tiamiyu Nafiu Ademola from Gateway Unit was therefore elected unopposed as the State Treasurer.

Before the election commenced, three members of the Oyo State Branch were nominated as the Electoral Committee Members and they included

Comrade Salewa Adekunle from Agbaje Unit as the Chairman; Comrade Usman Bada from Ona Ara Unit as the Secretary and Comrade Jide Richard from Basorun Unit as a member.

The Oyo State Branch delegates conference had in attendance some of the Southwest and National Leaders of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR).

Speaking with the media after the Delegates Conference, the newly elected Chairman, Comrade Alalade Salmon expressed his gratitude to the delegates who found him worthy to be elected as their Chairman.

Alalade also said he was satisfied with the election which produced him as the Chairman. He said: “the election of CDHR in Oyo State is already a legacy to be followed by other States’ Branches. The election as you can see was very free and fair and all protocols have been observed according to the constitution of the CDHR. Those present also saw how democracy prevailed in the election”, he stated.

Alalade went further to state his readiness to ensure that past leaders of CDHR in Oyo State are incorporated into his cabinet to record outstanding and immeasurable progress.

He added “Membership drive is going to be our main target and highly important. I will ensure more Units are created across Oyo State during my own time. The fact that many local governments are not represented here today shows you that I have a lot to do.

“My regime will collaborate with other members and other Comrades in the State. We will also ensure that our Constitution are upholded to the letters”, he stressed.

These list of the leaders present at the 2020 Oyo State delegates conference included the immediate past National Secretary from Ogun State Branch, Comrade Folarin Olayinka; the incumbent National Treasurer of the CDHR who also hails from the Ondo State Branch, Comrade Sola Kolawole and a former National Treasurer from the Ondo State Branch, Comrade Wole Olorunsuyi.

Others included the Chairmen of Osun State, Comrade Asifat Akinkumi and that of Ondo State, Comrade Alfred Olorunwo. The outgone Chairman of the Oyo State Branch, Comrade Akeem Abiodun was also around at the Delegates Conference to give account of his stewardship.
