An appointee of the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has counseled members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in Ekiti State on the need to maintain healthy living in clean environment to be free from the scourge of Lassa Fever disease ravaging some parts of the country.
The Youth Corpers were educated on how to identify Lassa Fever symptoms as well as preventive measures to be adopted in order to escape being infected with the dreaded disease.
Making the above submission on Wednesday in Ado Ekiti during a lecture, the Senior Special Assistance (SSA) to the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi on Public Health, Dr. Jimlas Ogunsakin who was on ground to sensitize the Youth Corpers serving in Ekiti State, advised them to be conscious of things happening in their environment.
He said: “You people have to be at alert because many of you are living in unhealthy environments”.
Ogunsakin stated that his lecture on Lassa Fever to the Youth Corpers was part of the Advocacy and Sensitisation programme organised by his office on preventive measures to avoid being infected with the virus during their service year.
“The lecture which continues tomorrow would be taken to other CDS for further enlightenment campaigns. We will continue to educate the Youth Corpers on the symptoms of lassa fever. We have been able to tell them on how they can control the disease. We have also been able to enlighten them about the signs and symptoms and how they can get help if they notice any of the signs”.
Still on its preventions and symptoms, Ogunsakin said: “Whenever any of the Youth Corpers are down with sickness, they should be able to note a regular headache, sore throat, chest pain, muscle pains, facial swelling, bleeding from either the mouth or nose or from any opening in the body”.
