The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) has urged commercial motorcycle operators to ensure they are properly registered before operating in the State and adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations of the Corps.

The TRACE Corps Commander and Chief Executive Officer, Commander Olaseni Ogunyemi made this known during an interview with the newsmen in his office, in Abeokuta, saying the economic situation of the country has turned motorcycles as popular means of transportation.

“Although motorcycles, popularly known as Okada was not a commercial means of transportation but because of situation we find ourselves in Nigeria, many have turned operators. Commercial motorcycles were banned in some restricted areas of Lagos because of deaths, accidents and disorderliness caused by them’’, Ogunyemi said.

He therefore enjoined them to register in the State before operating and desist from reckless riding, over-speeding and overloading; always make use of crash helmet and avoid carrying pregnant women, saying adherence to all these would reduce road accidents to the barest minimum.

The TRACE boss called for the motorcyclists’ cooperation with the traffic management in the State, warning that anyone caught disobeying rules and regulations would be apprehended and charged to court.
