Oyo Govt Vs Factional NURTW Leaders: ComPol Issues Warnings

The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Shina Olukolu has warned leaders of the proscribed National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) over alleged threat to peace and security in the state.

The warning by the state police command was as a result of the inciting video, trending on social media by leaders of the proscribed union to foment trouble at various motor parks in the state following the announcement of park managers by Governor Seyi Makinde.

In a press release by the Police Public Relations Officer, Olugbenga Fadeyi, the command stated that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olukolu, has warned the warring group to abstain from any action capable of breaching the peace and security in the state.

“The attention of the Commissioner of Police, CP Shina Olukolu has been drawn to an inciting trending video on social media on the threat to peace and security in Oyo State which featured the erstwhile chairman, Alh. Abideen Olajide a.k.a “Ejiogbe” and some other members of the proscribed NURTW in Oyo State.

“The Commissioner of Police wishes to unequivocally and sternly warn all the warring factions of the proscribed union to maintain peace and sheath their swords and abstain from any action that is capable of threatening the peace and security being enjoyed by the peace loving good people of Oyo State,” the statement reads.

The Commissioner maintained that the police in collaboration with other sister security outfits, in their responsibility to ensure security of lives and properties, will not allow some few individuals to cause mayhem under the guise of fighting for their right.

Olukolu clarified that the appointment of park managers by the state governor, Engr. Seyi  Makinde should not be misinterpreted, and should not be used as an excuse to orchestrate agenda to foment lawlessness and disunity in the state.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olukolu has also called on all criminally-minded individuals or groups, who are hell bent on causing mayhem to stay clear from the motor parks or garages across the state, saying that the security agencies will not hesitate to arrest such individuals or groups and make them to face the full wrath of the law.

He assured the people of the state to go about their lawful businesses as the men of the force are ready to ensure protection of lives and properties.
