The Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has warned students against engaging in the act of cutting corners in order to get rich quickly.

The governor made the call in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday while addressing the World Press Conference to usher in the 40th anniversary and the 2020 homecoming/reunion of the Christ School’s 1975/80 Alumni set of the Institution.

The Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi who is also the current National President of the 1975/80 Set of the Christ School’s Alumni Association revealed that the set already has six branches in Ekiti, Lagos, Ibadan, Abuja, Abeokuta and Akure aside from the international branches in North America as well as the United Kingdom/Ireland.

Fayemi maintained that the 40th Anniversary and the homecoming/reunion of the 1975/80 set will hold from Monday, October 19th to Sunday, 25th October, 2020 in Ado Ekiti. He informed the media that another press conference would be held later in the month of October, 2020 where the detailed activities for the week-long events will be unveiled to the public.

Responding to questions from the media, Fayemi stated that the quality of education has no doubt been reduced compared to when he was at Christ School in Ado Ekiti.

His words “Myself and other classmates did not go through free education in our time until our last year in the school. We did not enjoy free education but we enjoyed affordable education”.

He commended the School’s Alumni Associations and others rejuvenating the old time education system he once enjoyed. The Governor acknowledged that most Missionaries have formally written to the Ekiti State Government to request that they want to take over the public schools established by them from the government.

Fayemi stated further that going through education at their own time was peculiar. “Our teacher then handled us as if we were their own children. I was a quiet student at the time. We also had excellent teachers who were committed to their teaching profession. They acted the local parenting.

“When I was the Governor of this state during my first coming, the Schools enrollments in Ekiti State at the time was 96%. But when I left office for my predecessor, the School’s enrollment came down completely. But I thank God, the School’s enrollments is gradually coming back to normal now that I am back as the Governor”.

He condemned the activities of young adults engaging themselves in yahoo yahoo businesses (internet fraud), which is an easy way to success. He decried the state at which young schools leavers are plying the Yahoo Yahoo trade. He then called on parents to rise up to the task of properly training their children not to become a menace to the society.

Fayemi advised both students and parents to work on their characters rather than depending only on their brilliancy.

“A student can be brilliant without character. For the Yoruba, character is beauty”.

He urged the public to embrace education because it is the only antidote to fighting poverty. It is a misnomer for parents to be encouraging and celebrating their children involving in the Yahoo Yahoo businesses”.

He revealed the reason why Christ School was returned to its missionary owners.

Fayemi said his predecessor in office, the former Governor Ayodele Fayose kick-started the process of returning the School to its original owner. I only completed the process when I came back for my second term as the Governor of the State”.

The Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Mr. Tayo Adeoya while speaking with PMParrot/Parrot Xtra after the press conference said, “it has become a tradition for Christ School Alumni Associations to mark 40 years of graduation. There are so many projects that the 1975/80 set has done. It is only that we did not make much noise about them”, he stated.

Other dignitaries present at the press conference included the National Executive Members (NEC) headed by the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi. Also present were the Principals of both the Christ Boys School as well as the Girls School all in Ado Ekiti.
