Dr Kayode Fayemi’s administration in Ekiti State has described reports in some online news media that the State Government was charging teachers of public schools in the state a sum of N2, 500 for a training programme, as absolute falsehood, and a figment of the imagination of the authors.

The Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Professor Francisca Aladejana, in a statement made  available to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, stressed that the reports were spurious and unfounded as there was currently no training programme ongoing for teachers in public schools in the State, for which fees of any sort were charged.

The statement noted that the most recent training programme organized by the Board for teachers in public primary schools in the State, was the cluster training programme involving 1,855 teachers and education managers, drawn from the 16 Local Government Areas of the State, which ended on December 20th, 2019. No participant was required to pay any fee, nor was any fee collected. Rather, participants were paid allowances for attending the training.

The Board had in fact, never charged any fee for any of the several training programmes organized in the State during her tenure. The Board added that an ongoing Google sponsored training for secondary schools and monitored by the Ministry of Education, is completely free.

It reiterated the total commitment of the Governor, His Excellency, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi, to free education up to Senior Secondary School, capacity building for teachers, provision of good infrastructure and instructional materials, as well as provision of opportunities for the total development of the learners through sports, school farming, and other activities.

Professor Aladejana therefore urged those behind the wicked rumour to have a rethink and channel their energies towards supporting the positive ventures of the present administration, rather than engaging in mudslinging and other unproductive ventures.
