The Ekiti Sector Command of the the Federal Road Safety Corps has strongly warned motorists and other road users to comply with the directive of the state’s Governor Kayode Fayemi aimed at reducing the spread of coronavirus in the state.

The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Faustina O. Alegbe, through the FRSC spokesperson for the State, Route Commander Ayodeji G. Oluwadunsin read this riot act during his interaction  with PMParrot where he counseled the people of Ekiti to take the directive serious so as to prevent more people in the state from contacting the deadly virus.

He went on to issue out stern warning to motorists and motorcyclists who are fond of carrying overload to desist henceforth from such acts with a promise that those caught in the web and apprehended would be consumed by the law.

Speaking further, the PRO advised road users and the people of Ekiti State to maintain social distancing and avoid loitering around places and locations that are overcrowded.

He also stated that “it has been a law that the FRSC has been enforcing even before the outbreak of the Corona Virus. But due to the mode of spread of the Corona Virus whereby certain distance must be maintained to actually reduce the further spread of the virus, the need to re-emphasize the message has become more pertinent. The FRSC has been at the forefront of the idea of preaching against overloading by motorists and motorcyclists as a way of reducing Road Traffic Crashes on our highways.

“We have received directive from our headquarters in Abuja to intensify on the enforcements of one (1) passenger sitting in front of a vehicle and three (3) passengers sitting at the back seat. That is for commercial vehicles. But for motorcycles, it must be one (1) passenger on one (1) bike. It must not exceed that. That is why we have been on the lookout as Federal Road Safety Corps to ensure it’s actually being complied with by motorists and motorcyclists”.

The Ekiti FRSC spokesperson revealed that the officers and men of the RS 8.2 Command have been incorporated into the Taskforce Committee inaugurated by the Ekiti State Government with other sister security agencies operating in the state in order to effectively carry out the directives given by the state governor.

He said that with the specific instructions on the directive issued to the Ekiti FRSC at the several meetings recently held, the Command is constrained to domesticate the instructions of the government to the letter.
