Super Eagles midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi has revealed that former Nigeria national team’s skipper, Mikel Obi is his role model because he grew up watching him.

Leicester City midfielder, who played along side Mikel for four years in the Super Eagles before the 32-year-old retired from international duty after the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, stated that he copy the way the former Chelsea player hold the defensive midfield position and no matter how one try, you can not get the ball away from him.

“Mikel is my idol. He is the only player I know I cherished in that defensive midfield position. You can’t just get the ball from Mikel.

“You have to work very hard. The qualities he possesses stand him out anyway for me. I grew up watching him at Chelsea and I must say he was a gem during his time there,” Ndidi said.

Ndidi, who has established himself as one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League, has also been a key member of the Super Eagles since making his debut for Nigeria in 2015.
