Oba Saliu Alanmu Adetunji, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, has ordered all masquerades, irrespective of their grade, to observe the rituals for this year’s Egungun festival from their respective homes.

The Olubadan, who revealed this in a press release signed by his Personal Assistant and Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Adeola Oloko, charged the masquerades to pray that the world win the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic as soon as possible.

He stated that the decision not to have long profession this year is based on the need to embrace social distancing necessitated by the pandemic.

He noted that the boisterous nature of the festival has made it imperative for all masquerades to stay at home and perform all necessary rites until the authorities’ state otherwise.

He added that the decision was reached after extensive consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders.

The first class monarch then urged people to take all necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the virus.
