Afuye, Ekiti Speaker Joins Others To Mourn Olumilua, Says He Was A Great Elder Statesman

The Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Funminiyi Afuye has described former Governor of the old Ondo State, Evangelist Bamidele Olumilua, who died on Thursday morning as an outstanding elder statesman and a titan.

In a tribute signed this morning by the Special Adviser on Media to the Speaker, Akogun Tai Oguntayo and made available to the media, Afuye described the late Ikere-Ekiti born politician as a worthy ambassador of Ekiti in particular and Nigeria as a whole.

The Speaker who is also an indigene of Ikere extolled the good virtues of the late politician saying; “it’s the footprints left behind by Baba that we are following and it is a thing of joy that he left behind a good legacy.” He was a Pathfinder.

Afuye noted that late Olumilua was “a disciplinarian, educationist and a progressive politician who lived a selfless, spartan and exemplary life.” He said Ekiti State would miss him as well as Nigeria as a whole.

Evangelist Olumilua’s death was confirmed this mirning by his son, Ekiti State Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Muyiwa Okumilua.

He was the Governor of Ondo State from January 1992 to November 1993 during the Nigerian Third Republic. Pa Olumilua was elected on the Social Democratic Party (SDP) platform, but left office when the military regime of general Sani Abacha took power.
