  • More Donors Boost Hospital’s Efforts

The management of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan has announced that it has not recorded any new case of COVID-19 in the past two weeks.

The hospital revealed this in a statement from its COVID-19 media team on Monday morning.

In addition, the hospital’s fight against the ravaging virus has received a boost with more donations from BevPak (Nigeria) Limited located in Sanyo Area of Ibadan.

The head of the Human Resource of the company, Mrs. Ugonma Adaeze led some staff to donate medical consumables as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility towards the fight to curtail the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Mrs. Ugonma noted that UCH being the foremost teaching hospital in Nigeria and in the West African sub-region deserves to be supported by all corporate bodies and individuals to be able to meet up with the challenges of combating the dreaded coronavirus.

The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Hospital, Prof. Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo received the items on behalf of the Board, Management, Staff and Students of the Hospital.

Prof. Otegbayo noted that the items donated by BevPak will assist health workers in infection prevention and control of the deadly novel coronavirus.

He assured the company that the items will help greatly in winning the war against the ravaging virus.

The items donated by BevPak are:

Two Neubiliser machines

Five cartoons of hand gloves

One cartoon of Jik

Twenty bottles of hand sanitizer

Hundred bottles of liquid hand wash

Ten packets of surgical face masks

Two pulse oximeters

Similarly, Mrs. Omobolanle Obisesan of the Chemical Pathology Department of UCH the Hospital donated two hundred pieces of brandedface shields to the Hospital.

Mrs. Obisesan who said she was inspired by the increasing need to give back to the Hospital in this challenging period disclosed that she was able to come up with the face shields with the support of the Head of Chemical Pathology Department and all the staff of the department.

The Chief Medical Director (CMD) while responding to the gesture, encouraged staff of the Hospital to emulate Mrs. Obisesan.

He said “in the public service, people complain about so many things but in your own instance, you have identified a problem and you provided a solution. This is worthy of emulation, that is how development comes, it may look small but to me it is remarkable because we may not be able to quantify how many of our frontline workers this would prevent from contracting the virus.”

The statement continued “The University College Hospital, Ibadan has been playing the leading role in combating the spread of the coronavirus, and will continue to render excellent care and services to all our patients.

“The Hospital equally enjoins everyone to adhere to the required infection prevention and control measures prescribed by the WHO and the NCDC, such as physical distancing, regular hand washing, use of hand sanitizers & face masks. We will continue to update the public accordingly”.
