For the first time in weeks, the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan has announced that it recorded three active cases of COVID-19.

In a special statement from the hospital’s COVID-19 media team on Sunday morning, PMParrot was informed that the new cases were recorded on Saturday adding that the cases are “with mild symptoms and the patients are doing well, awaiting the second tests”.

The statement also informed that “the 2005 MBBS & BDS class of the College of Medicine of the University of Ibadan recently donated Personal Protective Equipment and consumables to the Hospital towards enhancing the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The items donated by the alumni included 25 units of Tyvek PPE suits (classic expert iii); 200 units of KN95 face masks; 250 pairs of shoe cover, and 55 face shields”.

The representative of the class, Dr. Omoyeni Richard, disclosed that the donation came from class members both in Nigeria and in the diaspora. He said, “those who are in the frontline of this battle must be protected, that is the initiative behind our giving back to this great institution where we trained.”

The items were received by the Hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Prof. Jesse Otegbayo who said “the hospital is in dire need of personal protective equipment at this time,” he also pointed that the items will greatly protect the hospital’s healthcare workers who are in the frontline.

Whilst he promised that they will be put to good use for the benefit of those who need them, he also appealed to other well-minded individuals and alumni to aid the Hospital in this trying time.

As at the close of business on Saturday, 13th June, 2020, there are three active cases of COVID-19 but with mild symptoms and the patients are doing well, awaiting the second tests.

Continued the statement “The University College Hospital, Ibadan has continued to play the leading role in combating the spread of the coronavirus, and has up-scaled her effort  to render excellent care and services to all our patients.

“The Hospital equally enjoins everyone to adhere to the required infection prevention and control measures prescribed by the WHO and the NCDC, such as physical distancing, regular hand washing, use of hand sanitizers & face masks. We will continue to update the public accordingly”.
