The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, has expressed hope in the Nigerian project, stressing that there are still upright and credible Nigerians in all walks of life.

According to Dele Oyewale, the spokesman for the commissione, Magu stated this on Wednesday, in Abuja,  while receiving  the Social Reformer Anti-Corruption Award  from the National Association of Barbers and Cosmetology Employers of Nigeria, NABCN.

National President of the Association, Comrade Barite Ngbobu, while presenting the Award and a giant-sized portrait to Magu, said  the honour came for him “for his onslaught against corruption and economic crimes in Nigeria”.  “The Association deemed it feat to honour Magu with the Association’s award because he deserved it for shaving out corrupt elements in country”, he said.

Ngbobu said the portrait, which showed Magu holding a clippers,  represented the work that Magu is doing by “shaving away looters, money laundering, corruption, bribery and internet fraud”.  He expressed delight at “the curtailment of impunity in the critical sectors of the polity, especially at the airports”.

Ngbodu flaunted the “17million membership of his Association”,  stressing that NABCN “is the highest employer of labour in Nigeria”.  He expressed concern over media attacks on Magu and the EFCC, stressing that, “If you are not being talked about, it means that you are not doing anything”.

Magu,  in his response, noted  the ingenuity of members of the Association through the portrait presented to him and tasked the Association to mobilise and organise its members to move the anti-graft train forward. He further challenged the Association  to join the fight against corruption and take the ownership of the fight by sensitising their members and the general public against the evils of the society.

“We must stop corruption but we need the Association to join the train because that’s the only way we can move forward”, he said.
