As the plans to hold the primary election to select the gubernatorial candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress in Ondo State, one of the aspirants, Chief Olusola Oke has tasked the Yahaya Bello-led election committee to be upright.

Specifically, Olusola Oke asked Bello, who is also the governor of Kogi State to take caution on his stand and his recent statement on the mode of the primary to be adopted for the Monday APC primary election exercise in the State.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Oke also called and appealed to the delegates eligible to vote on Monday to take note of his explanation and consider voting him in as the flagbearer of the party on Monday.

The statement was circulated to media houses and signed by the Director of Media for the Olusola Oke Campaign Organization, Mr. Rotimi Ogunleye in Akure on Saturday morning.

In the statement, Chief Olusola Oke reminded the Chairman of the Primary Election Committee for Ondo State, Governor Yaya Bello of Kogi State of the announcement he made on Friday stating that the APC had adopted Indirect Primary as the mode of election for Ondo gubernatorial primary election as very insensitive.

The statement noted that the Olusola Oke Campaign Organisation views the development as shocking and a clear departure from the position of the eleven gubernatorial aspirants who expressed their open preference for direct primary in a letter jointly signed by all of them and made available to the National Caretaker Committee of APC in Abuja.

In addition, the campaign organisation and other stakeholders in the coming election equally drew the attention of Governor Yaya Bello and the national leaders of the party that the adoption of an Indirect Primary method runs contrary to Article 20 of the APC’s Constitution. “If it runs contrary to any section of the party’s constitution, it is also proper to say that it is a subversion of the constitution of the party”.

For the sake of clarity, the statement reads, that “Article 20 (III) of APC constitution stipulates that for indirect primaries meant for the purpose of nominating a candidate for election, it shall be done at a designated venue for that purpose by an Electoral College of delegates democratically elected by members of the party from various wards contained in the particular constituency”.
