Gianni Vrenna, the Chairman of newly-promoted Serie A side Crotone has confirmed that star striker, Simeon Nwankwo, will not be sold despite interests from other clubs in the league.

Nwankwo scored 20 league goals to help return the team to the top flight after spending two seasons in the second division.

Lazio and Udinese are some of the clubs jostling for the signature of the 28-year-old, with Crotone turning down Udinese’s advances for the striker recently.

Nwankwo signed a three-year contract at the beginning of the 2019/2020 season and the club chairman has listed the Nigerian as one of the players to resume the next Serie A season at the Stadio Ezio Scida.

“We will keep at least nine of the 11 players for next season including Alez Cordaz, Junior Messias, Salvatore Molina, Simy (Nwankwo) and also Ahmad Benali, with which we are in the process of finding an agreement. Then we will try to strengthen the squad and make it compete with 3-4 category players,” he told calciomercato.com.

Vrenna stated that he had always believed in the Nigerian since he joined the club in 2016 from Portuguese side, Portimonense.

“He is a player in my heart. Since he arrived, I have been one of the few who believed in him; who stimulated him and who was close to him. He is an exceptional man; he also took whistles and insults. Now is his time, I repeat: he is a great man, as well as a great player.”
