A chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Lagelu Local Government area of Oyo State, Architect Hassan Olawale Giwa has called for a collaborative effort to put an end to the killings that is now rampant in Akinyele Local Government.

The Founder of a Non-governmental Organization, Hassan Olawale Giwa (HOG) Foundation also charged political, religious, traditional leaders and other relevant stakeholders in the zone to look beyond political and religious sentiments to tackle the high rate of insecurity and return peace to Akinyele and other adjoining communities.

Hassan Giwa gave the charge in a press statement released from his foundation’s office in Iwo-Road on Wednesday.

“I want to emphasize that no security agency can record any significant success without the support of the residents of the state. It is the people who will give the police all the necessary pieces of information to carry out their constitutional responsibilities successfully.

“I want to use this opportunity to commend Oyo State government for the support given to the security outfits in the state in terms of provision of vehicles for them to discharge their duties accordingly. I also want to appeal to the police to justify the efforts of the state government to, in turn, provide adequate security for the safety of lives and properties of the people of the state.

“I also want to join other well-meaning individuals in the state and beyond to demand thorough investigation into how the suspected killer, Sunday Shodipe escaped from the police custody.

“As a citizen of Oyo State and constituent of Lagelu/Akinyele federal constituency, I want to solicit the support of the entire people in Akinyele Local Government and environment, irrespective of political and religious affiliation to join hands with security personnel to re-arrest the suspected serial killer, Sunday Shodipe and others who have been terrorizing the area for the past four months.

“I also want to reiterate that the issue of security is not a burden of either government or security agencies alone, it is a burden that must be jointly shouldered by all and sundry in the state. Let us all join hands to protect ourselves.

“To the good people of Akinyele Local Government, I want to appeal to you that two wrongs can never make a right, be vigilant, give out information that will aid re-arrest of the culprit and his cohorts to the police and finally  please, avoid jungle justice, don’t take laws into your hands,” Giwa said.
