Negative reactions from the opposition parties have started to trail the outcome of Ondo State Gubernatorial election won by the incumbent Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
The Chairman of Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) in Ondo State, Hon. Joseph Akinlaja has described APC’s triumph as a “victory of thugs and money”, saying if that is what Nigerians want, so be it.
The former member of House of Representative in an exclusive chat with PMParrot correspondents after announcement of results said the elections lacked credibility because votes were sold and bought, stressing that the sitting government exploited poverty that is prevalent in the society to capitalize on this.
“The election lacks credibility because thugs were having a free day and votes were being bought openly, exploiting the poverty that is prevalent in the society, in order to maximize votes by a sitting government. That is not democracy.
“If that is what Nigerians want, so be it. It has come and gone, I won’t admit putting my life and that of my organization on the line like in 1994 when democracy should have returned to Nigeria by confronting the military junta of Gen Sanni Abacha, that is not my expectations”, ZLP boss noted.
When asked if his party is going to contest the results in a court of law, he stated that, a decision has not been made on that, until the leadership of the party meets and the resolution reached, it would be made public.
Meanwhile the Director General of Agboola/Gboye Campaign Organization, Dr. Kola Ademujimi in a ‘thank you message’ he issued and made available to newsmen thanked leaders, members of the party and the people of Ondo State for support, cooperation and show of love towards the party through their votes for the Zenith Labour Party during the gubernatorial election.
“I wish to specially commend the resilience, doggedness and strong determination of the National Leader of our party, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, the Ondo State Chairman of ZLP, Joseph Akinlaja, all members of the State Executive Committee, party leaders and the good people of this State in the face of naked intimidation, harassment, threat and blatant abuse of state powers by the ruling APC government before and during the election”, the statement said.
