Youths in the Ibadan North/West Local Government area of Oyo State have been advised to wake up from their slumber and take charge of their future.

This was disclosed by Dr Akande Kazeem Babatunde who was a guest speaker at a colloquium facilitated by Hon Ibikunle Olayinka Gbolahan tagged: Agbara Odo (Power of the Youths) centered on youth and community development.

The event which was held at the Balogun Ibikunle Palace, Ayeye Ibadan on Sunday was meant to reawaken the spirit of activism in the youths and the need to demand and hold leaders accountable.

Dr Akande, the Speaker who is a scholar and public commentator while addressing the youths drawn from the 11 wards in Ibadan North/West Local government area of Oyo State against the backdrop of the ongoing EndSARS protest said “students and youths have been the backbone of a sane society so to say, and young people had play very active role in the process of social transformation of this country”.

He added that youths seemed oblivious of the fact that their destinies were not to be toyed with by politicians and should therefore drive what happens in the society where they have a stake.

“We need to rise to the occasion and stop running away to other countries. There is no way we would make headways as long as we do not get the political process correct. The youths, Nigerians have to develop the habit of ensuring that the right things are done for the betterment of all, and not only police brutality that we’re agitating for” he noted.

Ibikunle Gbolahan, a philanthropist that is aspiring to represent Ibadan South West/North West Federal Constituency under the All Progressives Congress (APC), who facilitated the talk has been in the vanguard of grassroots developments through his many efforts which includes sharing of Covid-19 fund relief for people, renovation of several boreholes within the constituency, medical outreach of free eye test and treatment for over 350 people, and staging of football tournaments to engage youths positively.
