Nigeria’s Super Eagles midfielder, John Ogu has tendered unreserved apology to Nigerians over the comments he made during the #EndSARS saga.

Ogu asked the Super Eagles players to boycott the next 2022 African Cup of Nations qualifiers when security forces reportedly opened fire against unarmed protesters at the Lekki Toll last week.

Ogu’s statement earned him a lot of criticisms from a section of fans and Nigeria Football Federation executives, but the 32-year-old has now backtracked on his statement and apologized to Nigerians.

“I want to sincerely apologize to Nigerians, Nigeria Football Federation, players of the Super Eagles, both past and present and even those who dream to wear the green and white jersey that I wore with great pride and honour,” Ogu said.

Ogu admitted he crossed the line by asking players to boycott the AFCON qualifier and said he made the statement at the heat of the moment.

“I admit that I crossed lines, by asking players to boycott the AFCON qualifiers.

“Football is the strongest unifying force in Nigeria as I have in the past honored all National team invitations with delight knowing fully well that it has the potency to bring joy to Nigerians.” he added.
