The Kayode Fayemi-led government in Ekiti State has cancelled the customary interdenominational service usually held on the first working day of the year.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Ado Ekiti, the State Commissioner for Information and Values Orientation, Hon. Akin Omole explained that the cancellation was part of efforts to curtail the spread of coronavirus in the State.

Hon. Omole added that Governor Fayemi’s directive that public workers on grade level 12 and below should work from home also remains sacrosanct as workers resume duties after the public holiday marking the beginning of the new year.

Omole stressed the need for people in the State to adhere strictly with all laid down protocols to protect themselves from contracting the virus adding that government has made proper use of face mask mandatory in the State while physical distancing must also be maintained.

He also emphasized the importance of avoiding crowds, keeping rooms well ventilated and regular hand washing with soap and water as well as using alcohol-based hand sanitizers and coughing into bent elbow or disposable tissue.
