COVID-19: Ekiti Takes Delivery Of Testing Facilities From NGO

Ekiti State Government has taken delivery of a COVID- 19 facilities donated by a non-governmental organization (NGO) to test health workers in the state for COVID-19 at Oba Adeyemo Adejugbe General Hospital, Ado- Ekiti.

Speaking while receiving the facility from the NGO, Global Life bank, the State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Oyebanji Filani commended private individuals and non-governmental organizations who have contributed to curtailing the spread of Corona virus in the state.

Dr. Filani noted that the gesture would ensure that the health workers who are at the risk of contracting the virus would know their health status as regards Covid-19.

“This is a unique collaboration between Ekiti state government and Life bank, and this further demonstrates the commitment of the government of Dr. Kayode Fayemi to public- private partnership to developing the state”. He stated.

“This will further ensure the safety of health workers, who are front liners in curtailing the pandemic in the state”. The commissioner said.

Earlier in her remarks, the Chief Executive Officer of Global Life bank, Mrs. Temie Giwa-Tubosun stated that the gesture was an attempt to curbing the spread of the deadly pandemic in the state.

Mrs. Giwa-Tubosun noted that the facility is expected to test at least 1500 health workers in the state for Covid-19.

“The facility donated to the Ekiti state government today is expected to test at least 1500 health workers and it also come with Personal Protecting Equipment for use of the health workers who are at the highest risk of the global pandemic”. She stated.

Some of the items donated by   the organization include hand gloves, biohazard bags, swab sticks, alcohol cleansing pads, Viral transport medium (VTM), sample collection bottles as well as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as suit googles.

The CEO said that staff of the organization as well as those of Ministry of Health would be stationed at the facility for collection and analysis of samples till the exercise is completed.

She appreciated the Ekiti state government for providing the enabling environment as well as Johnson and Johnson Foundation for providing the finance and logistics to execute the laudable project.
