Dr Kayode Fayemi, the governor of Ekiti State has assured the men and officers of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) of the State’s support in its drive to tackle crimes and criminality in the state, saying security of lives and properties would continue to be his priority.

Fayemi, who stated this while receiving the Zonal Commander (Zone J) of the NSCDC, comprising Ekiti, Osun and Ondo states, Mr. Fasiu Ayinla, during a courtesy visit to his office, said the collaboration became necessary to ensure an atmosphere of peace as well as assist to stem down the crime rate in the state.

Commenting on the spate of crimes across the country, the Governor called for concerted efforts by combined security agencies to curb the menace.

The Governor promised that Ekiti would continue to promote good neighborliness among various ethnic groups residing in the state as well as ensuring that security institutions are sufficiently empowered to undertake their own responsibilities.

He also expressed his appreciation to the efforts of the command in the state for its effectiveness in the joint taskforce put in place by the government to stem the tide of criminality and brigandage in the state.

“We would see how best to support the activities of the zone, but I must say that we would try to ensure that as tough as things are, security remains our priority and whatever we can do to aid and encourage those who are in the line of fire who are assisting us to achieve our objective of total security for our people. We cannot afford to live them to that task on their own without support from us, so rest assured that we would try to make resources available to the extent that they are available to us ourselves.

“The Security and Civil Defense Corps has been quite supportive in our quest to ensure that peace and security reign supreme in Ekiti state.

They have formed part of the significant joint taskforce that we run in order to stem the tide of criminality and brigandage in the state.

“Independent of that, they’ve also embarked on their own solo efforts either through the agro rangers, or the mines surveillance taskforce or through the various intelligence gatherings operations to keep us abreast of what they are witnessing, the information they are gathering and the relevance of that to the overall security architecture of our state.

“Clearly, our security situation in the country needs much to be desired, Nigerians are very agitated, Nigerians are worried, Nigerians are afraid of what might happen to them and this has led them in a state of anxiety about the security and safety situation of the state and our people.

“We would continue to try our best to ensure that we promote good neighborliness among various groups residing here in Ekiti, and to ensure that security institutions are sufficiently empowered to undertake their own responsibilities.” The governor noted.

Earlier, the Zonal Commander, Fasiu Ayinla, commended Dr. Fayemi on his giant strides in the areas of Infrastructural and Human Capital Development as well as his sterling performances at handling the curtailment of Covid-19 pandemic as well as the overall Security management of the State.

Mr. Fasiu revealed that since his deployment as the Zonal Commander, the Corps has performed tremendously in the area of its core mandate which include Anti-Human Trafficking and Gender Unit, Intelligence gathering, Agro Rangers, Collaboration with other Security agencies and tackling vandals of critical national assets in the state.

He assured the Governor that the zonal command would continue to collaborate and support the state and other security architecture to collectively combat crime and sustain Peace and Unity in Ekiti State.
