Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, is banking on striker Victor Osimhen being fit enough to return to action when the team play their last 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Eagles play their last two qualifiers away to Benin Republic and at home to Lesotho next month.

Speaking with BBC, the Franco-German says he is waiting for Napoli doctors to certify Osimhen fit for the fixtures.

Osimhen was stretchered off in Napoli’s 4-2 defeat at Atalanta on Sunday, after he collapsed in the final minute of the encounter.

The PUNCH had reported on Tuesday that the 21-year-old rejoined his teammates on Monday night after the incident.

“I spoke to Victor, he told me he’s physically and mentally okay now but must wait for the club doctors,” Rohr told BBC.

“My thoughts are with him because he’s had some difficult start in Italy, but he’s a strong boy and he must wait for the doctors to clear him to play again.

“He’s an important player for us and we’ll see how it goes at his club first, because his well-being is very important for everyone.”

Osimhen tops the 2021 AFCON qualifiers scorer’s chart with four goals from four games.

The Eagles need a draw from their two remaining games, having garnered eight points to stay ahead of other teams in Group L.
