‘Welfare Of Teachers, Students Important To Fayemi’s Govt’

The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology in Ekiti State, Dr Olabimpe Aderiye has reiterated the commitment of the Kayode Fayemi-led administration to the development of the education sector and welfare of both teachers and students.

Speaking while receiving the new leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) who paid a courtesy visit to her office at Ado Ekiti, Dr. Aderiye applauded what she described as the effective partnership between government and teachers, adding that the cordial relationship between government and the teachers’ union has immensely contributed to the success of the education sector in the State.

She stressed the need for teachers to continue reciprocating efforts of the present administration at ensuring their general well-being, adding that they should discharge their duties with all sense of responsibility and properly mentor their students.

In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education,Science and Technology, Dr. Folakemi Olomojobi described  teachers as molders of destinies whose efforts will help correct societal ills and improve the world.

Earlier, the new NUT chairman, Mr. Oke Emmanuel had expressed gratitude to the State Government for providing a conducive atmosphere during their election which aided the achievement of a peaceful, free and fair election.

He extolled efforts of government to improve the education sector which he highlighted to include payment of salaries as and when due, release of running grants to schools as well as recruitment of teachers in primary and secondary schools.

The NUT Chairman however appealed to government to involve teachers in the planning of the yearly ‘Teachers Day’ and other activities of the Ministry and the Teaching Service Commission that can facilitate improved teaching and learning in our schools.
