Veteran Broadcaster, Basorun Adegboyega Lawal has confessed that he used to steal meat from his mother’s pot of stew as a child.

In his contribution to PMParrot’s column, ‘My Mother  I’ recently, the popular broadcaster continued…

“I love my mother so much because of the role she played in my life while I was young. My mother, Mrs Adunni Usman Lawal, is 92 years old, hale and hearty.

“While I was young, she made every effort to stop me from stealing and being covetous. As a child, I loved stealing meat from the pot of stew. Then, one very day, she caught me in the very act and that singular incident changed the course of my life totally till today.

“It happened on a very bright day when she was preparing yam flour (amala), and I had calculated at the time she would not be able to monitor me but unfortunately the yam flour got exhausted and she had to rush back to take another from the container under the bed and she caught me red handed stealing from the pot.

“She reported me to my father and to the other members of the family. She beat me and I sustained injury at the tips of my fingers.

“That incident has taught me to be contented till date and that is why I am not agitated or disturbed by people’s achievements or wealth. I have learnt to be contented, happy doing my job among other things in life”.
