Annita Mwagiru who serves as the Project Officer (Operations) for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Students Program has commended the leadership of the University College Hospital, led by Prof. Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo who is the Chief Medical Director (CMD).

The Kenyan who has extensive experience in project management, administration, and operations revealed this in her report issued on the official website of the global body while evaluating the progress and infrastructural development in African health institutions.

The report lauded the transparent manner the UCH leadership is handling various projects funded by SDG. She, however, urged the oldest teaching hospital in Nigeria to keep up the good job geared towards transforming UCH to meet the best global standard in medical services delivery.

“The infrastructures at the hospital that was commissioned on 20th November 1957 have decayed over the years due to poor maintenance from past administrations. The current leadership of the hospital considered renovation of the decayed infrastructure a priority, and the management set up a foundation to help source for funds and grants from development partners.

“The foundation is called UCH Health Foundation which is headed by a businessman and philanthropist, Dr Toyin Okeowo. Through the foundation, UCH applied to the SDG under the presidency in January 2020, and by December 2020, SDG obliged to renovate 5 buildings for UCH, which is now ongoing, anyone coming to UCH now will see the difference”.
