Rainstorm: Fayemi’s Govt, FERMA To Assist Displaced Residents Of Ilupeju- Ekiti

The Kayode Fayemi-led Government in Ekiti State has reiterated its commitment to support displaced victims of Ilupeju- Ekiti whose properties were destroyed by the recent havoc occasioned by heavy downpour in the state while assuring them of his government’s readiness to assist them rebuild their damaged homes and structures.

The Special Adviser on works to the Governor, Hon. Sunday Adunmo who disclosed this recently when he visited Ilupeju Ekiti while attributing the cause of the havoc to poor drainage system that has rendered many residents of the community homeless.

Speaking further, the Ekiti State representative of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Engineer Longe Babatunde while on inspection of the places affected, however, assured the residents of the community of the readiness of the state government and FERMA to assist them in rehabilitating the damage drainages across the state.

According to the Ekiti State FERMA boss, “we have discovered that drainages are not adequately channeled here. Most of the culverts have been overtaken by sands and waste materials.  Because of that, water cannot adequately pass through it. Our intervention now is to actually solve the problem by freeing blocked drains, provide culverts and work on those asphalted surfaces that have been destroyed”.

Engineer Babatunde further explained that since the situation at Ilupeju Ekiti was an emergency issue, proposals will be sent to the appropriate quarters for approval to expedite action that will bring succor to the people.

The Ekiti FERMA boss maintained that he will go from one town to another to verify the situation of things there.

“We are not going to seclude or give a town more priority that the others. We will be fair at looking at the emergency nature of the issues involved”, he revealed.

When asked about the measures to be put in place by FERMA to avoid further occurrences, he stated “Emergency can happen anytime and can be triggered by natural occurrences that no one can actually stop.

In such situations, FERMA will always be swift to intervene in such emergencies.

He equally used the opportunity to assure Ekiti residents that his team will always be prompt in rehabilitating portions of bad drainages among others.

On his part, the monarch, Apeju of Ilupeju Ekiti, Oba Emmanuel Olaleye Oniyelu who lamented over the unfortunate rain which caused a lot of havoc in the state, however, implored the state government to come to the aid of the displaced victims.

The Monarch equally stated that part of the fence of his own house was equally affected by the rainstorm.
