Ekiti State contingent to the 20th National Sports Festival returned to the State with 13 medals made up of 2 Gold, 3 silver and 8 Bronze medals.
The General Manager, Ekiti State Sports Council, Mr. Deji Samo who made this known in Ado Ekiti, said that he was excited about the prospect of athletes in Ekiti in spite of the modest performance.
Samo, however stressed the need for continuous preparation towards improving on the current level at future sports meets.
“It is imperative that athletes continue to train towards improving on their record in Delta State that would host the 21th National Sports Festival as announced at the closing ceremony”, he said.
He commended the athletes for their improved performance and also extolled their handlers for their unrelenting hardwork towards ensuring a successful outing.
Samo said that “we are not where we want to be but we are obviously not where we were considering the number of medals won this time around as opposed to that of the previous event.
“We appreciate the work done by the coaches and staff to prepare the athletes and we also congratulate the athletes for their improved performance in this edition”.
