Leading female talking drummer, Tosin Olakanye a.k.a Ayanbinrin in conjunction with her sister Damilola Olakanye Jules have established a Florida based multifaceted online store known as ‘Aafin Ewa’, Mother-Drum Beauty Palace Inc.
According to the renowned drummer, ‘Aafin Ewa’ deals with retail and wholesale ranges of skincare and hair care products, high quality clothing for men and women, gift packages, and a great selection of essential ready-to-wear items.
She stated that the motivation for establishing the Palace was borne out of the deep thought of the two sisters to make shopping accessible to the people even in the midst of the pandemic.
She submitted that Mother-drum shape-me waist trainers designs were inspired by the inner wooden part of the talking drum.
“The talking drum is an hourglass-shaped drum from West Africa, whose pitch can be regulated to mimic the tone and prosody of the human speech. It has two drumheads connected by leather tension cords, which allow the player to change the pitch of the drum by squeezing the cords between their arm and body.
Talking drums are carved out of tree trunks and made having an hourglass shape with long leather tension cords attached from the drum head to the base of the drum. The hourglass carved out wooden part of the drum is actually an important feature that gives the talking drum its rhythm and unique sound, just like the way a woman’s waist accentuates her beautiful look”.
The female drummer, however, stated that the waist trainers are uniquely designed with 96% cotton, 4% spandex, while the Neoprene types are designed with 80% Neoprene, 20% Nylon that can be worn comfortably on the skin. She described the trainers as soft that are specially designed in colorful Ankara and Adire prints.
She described the designs as unisex without side effects that can be worn during workout sessions, at work and for everyday use.
