All is set for the kick off of this year’s Egungun Festival in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji has urged the people to make it violence-free.

According to the first class monarch, the egungun festival is a celebration of our people’s rich custom and cultural heritage and it should not be turned into a display of dangerous weapons such as guns, cutlasses, bottles and machetes.

It will be recalled that this year’s egungun festival is the first since 2019 as the outbreak of COVID-19 prevented its celebration last year.

The Olubadan called on the masquerades and their supporters to observe every rule and regulation mapped out by law enforcement agents for the purpose of having a hitch-free celebration.

He stated further that the people should use the occasion of this year’s festival to pray for the peace and tranquility of our society. He warned against arson and acts of brigandage such as breaking into shops, adding that anyone caught would be made to face the wrath of the law.
