As part of efforts to block leakages in revenue collection, Dr Kayode Fayemi’s government in Ekiti State has advised people in the State to always pay their rates and taxes to the State Government Treasury Account through designated banks.

The Ekiti State Commissioner for Trade and Industries, Aare Muyiwa Olumilua who gave the advice during a one-day training programme for Trade Officers in Ado Ekiti also warned Revenue Officials against collecting cash from members of the public.

Stressing the need for the Trade Officers to be dedicated and diligent in the discharge of their duties, Olumilua said that they must key in to the vision of the Fayemi led administration to achieve the desired results.

He assured that the State Government would look into the challenges facing revenue officers, adding that the training programme would be continuous to boost and maintain efficiency.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Ayo Adeyanju charged Trade Officers to work towards increasing the State IGR, stressing the need for them to be firm but civil in the discharge of their duties.

One of the consultants in charge of the training programme, Mr. Adewusi Abiodun said that only nine out of the existing 78 Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) generate revenue for government.

He added that government has however made arrangements to train all officers involved in revenue collection in the MDAs towards achieving optimum result.

Abiodun appealed to all stakeholders to cooperate with the State Government and support efforts to develop the State in the interest of all and sundry.
