Fire on Wednesday morning destroyed shops containing car accessories worth millions of Naira at the Ladipo spare parts market in Mushin, Lagos.

Two firefighters were injured while putting out the blaze.

The Nation learnt that the fire started around 4am.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Acting Zonal Coordinator, Ibrahim Farinloye said the shops affected housed vehicle air conditioners, engine oil, paints and other car accessories.

The firefighters, he said, had a tough time putting out the fire as one of the shops had flammable items.

The Nation observed all agencies including the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the state Fire Service were at the scene.

LASEMA’s Director-General, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu said no casualties were recorded.

“Joint responders comprising the agency and its fire service, Lagos Fire service are making efforts to put the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to surrounding buildings,” he said.

The cause of the fire could not be ascertained.

Affected shop owners were in tears and agony.

One of them said he was called that his shop had been razed.

Lucy, a sister to one of the victims, who was close to tears said, she could not believe her eyes.

“My brother’s shop is the first on the ground floor, I can’t believe this was the shop I came to yesterday. Only God knows the state my brother is in right now because he has just lost everything,” she said.
