Following his spectacular performance in the Fuji industry and entertainment sector generally in the outgoing 2021, an Ibadan-Based Fuji icon and Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Entertainment, Alhaji Taye Akande Adebisi has bagged the prestigious NUJ Best Entertainer Award.

It was indeed a glorious day for the Fuji ambassador popularly known as Currency at the Gala/Dinner of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State council held at Are Afe Babalola Bar Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Oyo NUJ,  Comrade Ademola Babalola, said the choice of Taye Currency as the best entertainer of the year was because of his consistency in the music industry and hardly would a week pass without noticing Taye Currency performing at one show or the other. He said that his music in the stable of marketers keeps getting attention and soaring higher.

“We did our feasibility studies very well and we came to a conclusion that for the year 2021 he gained more popularity and attention among his contemporaries in the industry and after much deliberation with our members we had no choice than to give him and we wish he continues and improves on it in the coming years.”

Speaking in response to the award, Currency’s first son and Member of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Yusuf Adebisi, who represented his dad, thanked NUJ and journalists for the honour bestowed on his father.

He said his father is very happy for the honour and was unavoidably absent because of the same reason he was considered for the award, as he had to perform at an event earlier scheduled for Sagamu in Ogun State.

Hon. Adebisi, who is the Deputy Chief Whip in the state’s Assembly, said his father is a friend to journalists and he would like the relationship to remain like that.

The youngest lawmaker in Nigeria expressed willingness of his dad to be part of any of the Union’s future events and therefore, prayed for greater achievements, progress and safety for all members of the Union.

Hon. Adebisi, however, admonished members of the pen profession to always abide by the truth and be fair to all parties concerned when discharging their reportorial duties.

The event was attended by prominent personalities including  popular Nigerian actor, Akin Williams, representative of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, FIBAN Chairman,  Seun Awodele among others.
