Charles Ajibaye and Omolaraeni Olaosebikan recently emerged winners in men and women categories respectively at the Golf tournament which was held to celebrate a philanthropist and passionate golfer, Otunba Abimbola Davis at the Ibadan Golf Club (IGC), Onireke, Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State.
Ajibaye, the eight handicapper from IGC won the men’s category of the tournament with 78 gross and 70 Net on count back to edge Professor Temitope Alonge that recorded 91 gross and 71 net and Gabriel Eneware that scored 93 gross and 70 to second and first runners-up respectively.
Meanwhile, the CEO of Perfect Clicks Signature, Omolaraeni Olaosebikan, playing handicap 35, who scored 109 gross and 74 net claimed the top prize in the women’s category at the expense of Mrs. Tope Alonge that recorded 101 gross and 75 net to place second and Hon. Sade Ajala, the Lady Captain of Tiger Golf Club who got 95 gross and 78 net to finish third.
The birthday tournament that witnessed top dignitaries in the golfing circle in Nigeria was upgraded into a golf open championship as from next year according to the celebrant to accommodate big players and exciting prizes.
“In appreciation of much love shown to me by the golfing family here at IGC and beyond, I’d like to upgrade this event from a mere birthday tournament to an open golf championship as from next year, where fantastic prizes will be won and more participants would be accommodated.
“One of my firms, Books and Sports will be the major sponsor of the Open Golf Championship as from next year and I will want the committee to liaise with my staff to perfect every plan”, Otunba Davis revealed while making remarks during the closing ceremony.
Among bigwigs of the golfing circle that witnessed and participated in the tourney was Mrs. Onwuegbu Bose, the Lady Captain of Dolphins who doubles as the Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF) South/West representative, she lauded the good gesture of the Otunba Davis towards the development of golf at IGC and beyond while speaking.
The acting captain of IGC, Tunji Oladosu in his speech described the celebrant as a jolly good fellow and strong backer of the club since he joined with his positive impacts strongly felt in every aspect of Ibadan Golf Club.
