The Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has urged Nigerians to demonstrate the spirit of unity and love in order to the challenges of killings and kidnappings in the country.
The monarch stated this in Ejiyan Ekiti over the weekend during the one-year coronation anniversary of the monarch of Ejiyan Ekiti, Oba Adekunle Adepoju.
Oba Ogunwusi, represented by the Obalufe of Ile Ife, Oba Idowu Adediwura, further stated that no challenge can overwhelm a nation that considers unity, love and patriotism as strength.
He said, “What we desire in Nigeria is love, patriotism and unity. God created the universe with love. He created man in His own image. With love, all the projects initiated in this town will be completed before the end of the year”.
Speaking further, Oba Adepoju eulogised the State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi for granting autonomy to the town from the old Ipoti Ekiti, while assuring that the town would partner with the government in order to fast track development to the community.
He said, “We quite appreciate the fact that government alone cannot do it. There are areas where we have employed instrumentality of the support of our people to make a difference such as in the renovation of our market, provision of uniforms for indigent students, renovation of our old palace among others”.
The monarch further appealed to Governor Fayemi to rehabilitate the Ejiyan-Odo Owa, Ejiyan-Isanlu and and Ejiyan-Iloro roads in order to facilitate economic growth to the community.
Also, the Chairman of the Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers and Onisan of Isan Ekiti, Oba Gabriel Adejumo, stated that Ejiyan is fast developing due to love among the indigenes while appealing for more collaborative efforts from every stakeholder in order to fast-track more development in the town.
“Let us be united and work for the progress of this town but we can only develop when we have peace. Let us work together and make this town great and distinct in all forms. Allow peace in your midst and work for peace always”.
The ceremony also witnessed the conferment of chieftaincy titles on eminent Nigerians, and the launching for the construction of ultra modern palace for the town.
