Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital came alive when the Social Democratic Party’s flag bearer Engineer Segun Oni stormed the city amid dancing and singing by party faithful and admirers.
The SDP party loyalists stormed the CSO’s Secretariat situated at Ajilosun area of Ado Ekiti as early as 9:00 am and waited till the arrival of the gubernatorial hopeful till 3:00 pm that he arrived.
The former Governor of Ekiti State who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party after the gubernatorial primaries held on the 26th of February, 2022 which produced Honourable Bisi kolawole as the Winner of the Primary Election.
Addressing the mammoth crowd that came to welcome him, Engineer Segun Oni admonished the people to reject APC and PDP calling on them to adopt the Social Democratic Party as the alternative to the shortcomings of the two political parties. He also told them that his coming to Ekiti State as a candidate is for ‘progress’.
He maintained that he is ready to liberate the state and move it to its glorious heights. Engineer Segun Oni was accompanied by his Deputy Governorship Candidate, Chief Ladi Owolabi who is also a defector from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State.
The Ado to Ikere road was blocked for hours as vehicular movement came to stand still from Ikere to Ado Ekiti. Oni and his convoy later moved round the State Capital as he acknowledged cheers from his well wishers.
Oni, waved back to appreciate the mammoth crowd that came to welcome him from both sides of the road in an open roof jeep which conveyed him back to Ekiti State since he formally defected to the Social Democratic Party.
It would be recalled that Oni went to Abuja some weeks ago to perfect his papers with the National Leadership of the Party and the INEC to become the Candidate of the Social Democratic Party in the State.
