Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has called for all-inclusive reforms to effectively rescue the Nigerian education system.

Obasanjo said this while receiving the leadership of the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVCNU) at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The elder statesman noted that unless the entire system was totally overhauled and comprehensively reformed, the country’s Education sector would continue to experience quality slide.

The delegation, led by CVCNU Chairman, Professor Samuel Edoumiekumo, who also doubles as the Vice Chancellor of Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island, Bayelsa State, was in Abeokuta to intimate the former President on the forthcoming 60th anniversary ceremony of the organisation slated for October 2022.

While welcoming the leadership of CVCNU, Obasanjo emphasised the need for more attention to be directed towards investment in education.

The ex-President stressed that education is a critical factor driving innovation, technological advancement and employment opportunities.

He said: “One of the things we haven’t got right in Nigeria is education. If we get it right, it will be the basis of getting a number of other things right. If you think education is expensive, try ignorance.”
