Nigeria’s Super Eagles handler, Augustine Eguavoen has revealed why he is keen to bring Victor Moses back to the Super Eagles squad.

The 31-year-old winger retired from international football in August 2018 after being part of the Nigeria squad which failed to get beyond the 2018 FIFA World Cup group stage in Russia.

Moses, who has played for top European clubs such as Chelsea FC, Liverpool FC and Inter Milan, is a consistent performer for Spartak Moscow in the Russian Premier League.

With the Super Eagles set to face Ghana in the final round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification later this month, Eguavoen feels Moses would bring value to the national team.

“We want the best for the country. Victor Moses is somebody I adore and I’m looking at ways of trying to get him in and we’ve spoken,” Eguavoen told BBC.

He’s not part of these games [World Cup play-off against Ghana] but hopefully as time goes on because we want the best for the team.

“Whether we like it or not, Victor Moses will still bring some value. But right now he is playing in Russia, we all know the problems with Ukraine and Russia,” he added.

“I am happy to say that my conversation with him is settled.”

Born in Nigeria, Moses represented England youth teams at under-16, under-17, under-19 and under-21 levels, but opted to play for Nigeria as opposed to being fully capped for England.

The Crystal Palace academy product made his debut for the Nigerian senior team in 2012 and earned 38 caps and scored 12 times before retiring from international matches in 2018.

He played in Nigeria’s winning campaign at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, as well as the campaign in the 2014 World Cup.
