2022 CBN Junior Tennis Championship: How Ekiti Excelled

Athletes from Ekiti State won four trophies at the recently concluded 2022 CBN Junior Tennis Championship held at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club (LLTC) in Lagos.

The General Manager of the Ekiti State Sports Council, Mr. Kunle Adeyemi who made this known in Ado Ekiti, said that Seun Ogunsakin retained his Boys 16 & Under title while his younger brother, Oluwaseyi Ogunsakin emerged the Under-12 champion in the categorywhere he was runner-up in the last edition.

According to him, the State also excelled in the female categories, noting that Gloria Samuel was adjudged the Most Outstanding Female Player of the tournament while Success Ogunjobi came second in the girls’ Under-16 event.

Commending the athletes and their coach, Mr. Wumi Ogunsakin for the feat, Adeyemi attributed the achievement to their diligence and the commitment of the State Government to youth and sports development.

He however solicited improvement in the contribution of public-spirited individuals and corporate organizations to sports development, stressing the need to support Government’s efforts towards achieving the desired goals.

Adeyemi noted that “sports activities play an important role in communities. Their many benefits include improving the health and well-being of individuals, contributing to the empowerment of individuals, and promoting the development of inclusive communities”.
